This initiative aims to diversify and expand Canada’s educational engagement, strengthening bilateral ties through new partnerships formed under the Study in Canada Scholarships, part of Global Affairs Canada’s International Scholarships Program.

Eligibility Criteria for Scholarships:

Applicants must be citizens of eligible countries or territories, which include parts of Asia (Bangladesh, Nepal, Taiwan), Europe (Turkey, Ukraine), the Middle East and North Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia), and Sub-Saharan Africa (Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda).

They should be full-time students at post-secondary institutions in these eligible regions, paying tuition fees to their home institution at the time of application and throughout their exchange.

Ineligible candidates include Canadian citizens or permanent residents, current recipients of Canadian government scholarship programs, or those already enrolled in Canadian post-secondary programs.

Scholarship Details:

  • Value and Duration: Scholarships cover various expenses and have different durations based on the level of study. For college/undergraduate (4 months) and graduate studies (4 or 5-6 months), amounts range from $10,200 to $12,700 to cover visa fees, airfare, health insurance, living expenses, ground transportation, and necessary study materials.
  • Funding: Awarded by Global Affairs Canada, funding is managed by Canadian institutions, which also receive $500 per scholarship recipient for administrative costs and might get reimbursements for additional employer compliance fees.

Application Process:

Canadian institutions apply on behalf of eligible students. They are encouraged to promote the scholarship, explore student exchange agreements, and select eligible students following internal procedures.

The application involves registering on the My EduCanada platform, completing the application form, uploading the required documents, and submitting before the deadline.

Application Deadline: March 19, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

Selection Criteria: Applications are assessed based on the merit of the proposed research or study, the anticipated benefits to home and Canadian institutions, the strength of proposed linkages, and previous receipt of scholarships under the Global Affairs Canada Short-Term Exchange Program.

Notification and Arrival: Successful Canadian institutions will be notified in the spring. Selected students can arrive between August 1, 2024, and February 1, 2025, and must apply for their visa or study/work permit promptly to avoid delays.

Scholarship recipients agree to engage in full-time studies or research, avoid clinical training involving direct patient care, return to their home institutions after the scholarship period, and comply with all scholarship conditions to avoid cancellation.
