The UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education recognizes the remarkable contributions of individuals, institutions, and organizations towards advancing girls’ and women’s education.

UNESCO invites nominations from the governments of UNESCO Member States and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in official partnership with UNESCO. Each entity can nominate up to three candidates who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to this cause.
This prize celebrates innovation and excellence in projects that enhance the educational opportunities for girls and women, ultimately improving their quality of life. Selected by the Director-General of UNESCO based on recommendations from an independent International Jury, the laureates exemplify transformative initiatives in girls’ and women’s education.

Selection Criteria:
The selection process, overseen by the Director-General and an International Jury comprising five experts in girls’ and women’s education, considers the following criteria:
- Impact: Measurable outcomes that positively influence attitudes, participation, completion, and learning outcomes for girls and women.
- Innovation: Innovative approaches that challenge conventional methods and address gaps in girls’ and women’s education.
- Sustainability: Efforts to ensure lasting impact beyond the project lifecycle through local action, institutionalization, and knowledge sharing.
In addition to these criteria, nominated projects must have been operational for at least two years and demonstrate potential for replication, scalability, or significant learning in diverse contexts. Projects should align with one or more of the five priority action areas of the Prize, covering various stages of education and addressing gender-specific challenges.

Value of Program: Each laureate will receive USD 50,000.
How to Apply: Nominations must be submitted in English or French through the online platform accessible to UNESCO Member States and official NGO partners. Permanent Delegations to UNESCO or authorized NGOs can submit nominations through their official accounts.
