Answer to (a)

In reference to the poem , yeats feels that his creative energy has been drained because of the excessive stress he has to undergo as a manager of a theatre business in Ireland.

Yeats complains that managing the theatre has been really challenging for him and it’s sucking away the joy and passion he has for the job which is not making him creative enough.

Yeats compared his current creativity to that of a horse that is being whipped and it’s dragging heavy stones making it difficult for him to move showcasing how difficult it is for him to be creative.

He also emphasized on how he has to deal with several incompetent people in d theatre ; all this factors led to the reason Yeats feels creative energy is being drained.

Answer to (b)

Yes, I think those struggles Yeats mentioned are still relevant for modern artist because what makes an artist is the ability to be creative, but if the job that’s been done is extremely is extremely challenging, it can be really draining which could lead to lack of creativity, also having to manage other people that are uncooperative can be really overwhelming and could result to excessive stress and might affect the creativity level of the artist .
