Abia closes seven Aba private schools
Seven private schools in Aba, Abia, have been closed by the Abia government for operating illegally and in an unfavorable setting.
Emma Ukwu, the commissioner for basic education, revealed this in a statement on Friday.
The schools are Bethesda House International School, 42 Owerri Road off Okigwe Road Aba; Lily Brains International School; Conquering Ground International School; Presbyterian Academy; 35 Glass Industry Extension; 7up Area; Ogbor Hill; Shade of Mercy International School; Fruitful Ground Christian School; and His Mercies Christian Academy, St. Eugene Road Aba.
Mr. Ukwu warned the schools against undermining the government’s order and urged parents and guardians of students at the closed schools to immediately remove their children from those schools.
The commissioner added that defaulting school owners might also face legal action. He also ordered the closure of all illegally operating private schools in Abia.
According to Mr. Ukwu, the decision was made in response to the Abia government’s determination to sanitize the education industry by ensuring the proper establishment and operation of schools.
He threatened to revoke the operating licenses of some schools on the grounds that they had compromised standards after receiving government approval.
The commissioner instructed all legitimate schools to show original copies of approval documents to officials from the ministry of education upon request and to display copies of them publicly.
