December 4th holds a special place in Nigeria’s history. On this day in 1957. Reynolds Bekinbo Dagogo-Jack, a Nigerian civil engineer, technocrat, and politician, was born in Rivers State, Nigeria.

 

Reynolds Bekinbo Dagogo-Jack, popularly known as Beks, is a Nigerian technocrat, entrepreneur, politician, and civil engineer born on December 4, 1957. His birthplace was Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, to Chief Karibi Jim Dagogo-Jack and Mrs B.K. Dagogo-Jack.

Dagogo-Jack’s educational background is impressive, having attended Bishop Crowther Memorial School, Abonnema, and Baptist High School, Port Harcourt. He furthered his studies at the University of Benin, graduating with distinction in hydraulics and advanced structures, earning a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1980. He also completed coursework for a master’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Lagos in 1992 .

As a passionate advocate for education, Dagogo-Jack founded the Center for Public Good (1999–2007), awarding scholarships to deserving students from Akuku-Toru Local Government Area in Rivers State. His career in the downstream petroleum industry was marked by various roles, including District Engineer, Divisional Engineer, Operations Engineer, and Manager .

Dagogo-Jack’s tenure as Rivers State’s Commissioner for Works and Transport (1997–1998 and 2007) saw significant urban transport reforms and infrastructure upgrades. He also oversaw critical energy initiatives between 2010 and 2014, achieving a record national grid supply of 4,517 MW.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to national development, President Goodluck Jonathan conferred upon him the prestigious Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) in 2014
