Fifteen people arrested for destroying banks in Akwa Ibom: Police

15 persons have been detained, according to the Akwa Ibom police command, on suspicion of destroying banks in the Oron council area.

The arrest was verified to journalists in Oron on Sunday by police spokeswoman Odiko MacDon.

“The police jumped into action as soon as we received word that certain banks had been targeted in the Oron local government. About 15 people have been detained as of right now in relation to the incident, according to Mr. MacDon.

When some young people demonstrated against the lack of naira notes on Friday, there was an attack.

The police commissioner, Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi, expressed sadness over the situation and gave divisional police officers in the affected local government’s instructions to make sure that peace and order didn’t break down anymore, the source added.

According to Mr. MacDon, the police commissioner urged locals to uphold the law since anyone found damaging public property would face severe punishment.

He stated that the police will make every effort to guarantee that Akwa Ibom remained one of Nigeria’s most tranquil states.

Residents are concerned that banks in the area might not open on Monday following a directive by the union of bank employees to members not to go to work where there were attacks.
