First FCT Minister of Nigeria is mourned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun, Nigeria’s first Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, passed away in Lagos, and President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences.

Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President for Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy, disclosed this in a press statement.

The Muritala Mohammed military regime selected Chief Ajose-Adeogun, who passed away at the age of 96, as Minister of the Federal Capital in 1976. He held the job through 1979.

The country and the people of Lagos State, where he held a significant traditional title, owe the deceased a debt of gratitude for his meritorious service over the years, said Tinubu, praising the former minister and well-known businessman for his contributions to national development.

According to the statement, “I join the family, children, friends, and the Lagos State Government in grieving the passing of Chief Mobolaji Ajose-Adeogun, an illustrious son of Lagos who distinguished himself as the first Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

“More than 40 years after his time on the Federal Executive Council ended, his records of impeccable and avant-garde leadership of the FCT continue to be indelible.

“Chief Ajose-Adeogun will be recognised for his significant role as an industrialist and businessman in the economic development of our nation. He did a great job of serving his nation and the residents of Lagos State, where he was a traditional chief. I ask God to grant him eternal peace for his soul,” he stated.

Chief Ajose-Adeogun, who passed away, served as a federal minister twice. In 1975, he served as the Federal Commissioner for Cooperatives and Supply. He was chosen to serve as both the Federal Capital Development Authority and the Federal Commissioner for Special Duties.

While serving as the FCT minister, he oversaw the planning and design of the Abuja master Plan.
