Former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, faces a new 10-year prison sentence

James Ibori, the former governor of Delta State, faces a new 10-year prison sentence in the UK for a £100 million scam.

James Ibori was found guilty of fraud and money laundering in the UK, and a judge there is expected to order the confiscation of more than 100 million pounds ($129 million) from him, according to Reuters.

Among the governors from the class of 1999 who paid President Bola Tinubu a visit at Aso Rock this week was Ibori, the governor of Delta from 1999 to 2007.

In 2012, he admitted guilt to 10 counts of fraud and money laundering and received a 13-year prison term. In 2011, after escaping Nigeria, he was deported from Dubai to London.

He was charged by British authorities with stealing state monies and using UK banks and assets to launder them. The confiscation proceedings against Ibori are almost finished after years of legal disputes and delays.

According to Reuters, Southwark Crown Court Judge David Tomlinson has reached factual conclusions about the financial gain Ibori received from his actions.
