France’s Christopher Nkunku has been ruled out of the World Cup after getting hurt during practice.

    Nkunku France 2022

Following an injury sustained during France’s pre-World Cup training, Christopher Nkunku will not compete in 2022.

During Tuesday’s practice, Nkunku badly twisted his leg when he went up against Eduardo Camavinga for the ball. The forward for RB Leipzig instantly indicated he was in agony and left the practice ground to get help. Since then, France has acknowledged that the injury will keep him from competing in the competition.

The news comes as a major setback for Les Bleus, who already had Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, and Presnel Kimpembe sidelined for the Qatar match. This season, Nkunku has also been in excellent form for club team Leipzig, scoring 12 goals in 15 Bundesliga outings.

“Christopher Nkunku must skip the World Cup after suffering an injury in practice. The entire organization is sad for Christopher and hopes he recovers quickly “The national team released a statement.

Randal Kolo Muani, a forward for Eintracht Frankfurt, has been called up by France to fill Nkunku’s spot; the 23-year-old is expected to report to camp on Thursday.

With Australia as their opponent on November 22, France will now ramp up preparations for the World Cup.
