Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has greenlit the allocation of N192 million to support 2,011 senior secondary school students, ensuring they can sit for their 2024 final year examinations without any financial burden on parents.

The funds, approved by Governor Diri, will cover the examination fees for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO), both crucial assessments for these students’ academic futures.

Ayibaina Duba, the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, announced this in Yenagoa on Wednesday. He highlighted that the beneficiaries hail from 13 government-model secondary schools across Bayelsa State.

Duba emphasized that this decision aligns with Governor Diri’s consistent dedication to enhancing education throughout his tenure, reflecting a sustained commitment to educational advancement and human capital development over the past four years.

He underscored that the state government’s ongoing coverage of WAEC and NECO examination fees is a strategic investment in education, aimed at fostering a conducive learning environment and nurturing the intellectual growth of Bayelsa’s youth.

Moreover, Duba pointed out that this initiative extends beyond senior secondary education, as the government also subsidizes the Unified Primary School Leaving Examination and Junior Secondary School Certificate examinations, alleviating financial burdens for parents across the state.

Encouraging Bayelsans to anticipate Governor Diri’s second term with renewed hope, Duba affirmed the administration’s unwavering dedication to uplifting the educational landscape and fostering a brighter future for the state.

With this proactive step, Governor Diri’s administration continues to prioritize education, ensuring that every child in Bayelsa has the opportunity to pursue academic excellence without financial constraints.
