Kwara Community Sounds Alarm Over Activities of Land Grabbers

Aleniboro Community in Ilorin West LGA of Kwara State is sounding the alarm regarding the escalating insecurity and disruptions caused by a group of land grabbers who claim to represent the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin, Dr Usman Abubakar Jos.

Expressing concern over the issue, the chairman of the community, Alhaji Yusuf Oloyin, spoke with Daily Trust and pointed to a longstanding land dispute between Aleniboro and the Ilorin Airport Authority. This dispute, he noted, had been successfully resolved with the assistance of the Emir of Ilorin.

Oloyin highlighted that approximately 300 affected individuals possessed valid documents countering the claims made by the Balogun. He explained, “The residents have endured harassment, intimidation, and disruptions to construction activities. Incidents of theft and extortion, among other criminal activities, have been on the rise.”

He further lamented, “To exacerbate the situation, some hoodlums have taken advantage of the chaos, engaging in attacks, snatching phones, waylaying, and extorting money from passersby at night.”

In response to the escalating tensions, the community has taken proactive measures by formally writing to the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, seeking urgent intervention in addressing the unfolding crisis.

Adding to the narrative, the Balogun Alanamu, Usman Abubakar Jos, provided his perspective during a phone conversation with our correspondent. He dismissed the affected landowners as individuals with malicious intent, stating, “I have aired numerous radio adverts inviting those affected to bring forth their land papers for verification. However, some magajis appointed by my predecessors have advised them to disregard our invitation.”

He continued, “Those who have responded to our invitation have undergone confirmation, and we have ordered the suspension of ongoing construction until our verification process is concluded.”
