Lawmaker accuses Wike of assassinating police DPO

The representative of Akuku/Asari Toru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Boma Goodhead, has accused the former Governor of Rivers State and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, of orchestrating the assassination of Superintendent of Police Bako Angbashim in September. During a protest against recent developments in the state, Goodhead called for a federal investigation into Angbashim’s death and suggested Wike’s involvement.

In a video shared by political commentators, Goodhead stated, “Nyesom Wike, Mr. President call him… [sic] they are for the murder of DPO Bako, I can attest to that fact.” While unable to provide more details, she mentioned that she would provide additional information to the State Security Service (SSS) for investigation. Goodhead also asserted that Wike poses a significant threat to the peace of Rivers State.

Superintendent Bako Angbashim was killed on September 8 during a police operation in the Odemude community. The divisional police commander’s team was ambushed by a cult group, resulting in heavy gunfire and Angbashim’s capture and subsequent decapitation.

Although there is no direct evidence linking Wike to the crime, Goodhead, the sister of former militant leader Asari Dokubo, held him and others responsible. The accusations add to the political turmoil in Rivers State, marked by a power struggle between Governor Simi Fubara and former Governor Wike, leading to defections, resignations, and the demolition of the State House of Assembly complex. Wike did not respond to requests for comment on the allegations.
