More victims resuced in Ibadan Explosion

Witnesses have reported that several individuals were successfully rescued from the debris of the explosion that took place in Ibadan, Oyo state capital on Tuesday, Jan 16. The rescue operation is still ongoing and as of Wednesday, Jan 17, three individuals, including a mother and her baby, have been rescued and are now safe.

 

Based on witness accounts, relatives and residents in the area have been using their mobile phones to contact their loved ones who are trapped under the rubble. Many of the victims have responded and are requesting assistance to be rescued.

 

A video clip that has been shared online depicts the rescue of an unidentified man who was successfully extracted from the rubble.

The video of the man being lifted on a stretcher and carried to an ambulance for further medical attention was posted by Arise Television on Wednesday, Jan. 17.

Onlookers can be heard sympathising with him as he is being carried away.

 

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency has disclosed that over 20 houses were affected in the Tuesday night explosion that rocked the Bodija area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

 

“Over 20 houses were affected. Casualty figures can not be ascertained for now. Search and rescue operation is still ongoing,” the agency said
