N19.6 million sex enhancement drugs intercepted in Sokoto: Customs

Sokoto, Nigeria – The Nigeria Customs Service’s joint border patrol team in Sector IV has made significant seizures in Sokoto, including a large consignment of sex enhancement drugs and trucks illegally exporting food items to Niger Republic.

Coordinating Comptroller Kolapo Oladeji announced the interceptions during a press briefing. He revealed the capture of sex enhancement drugs with a duty-paid value of N19.6 million, highlighting the potential health risks associated with these unregulated substances, some even bearing fake registrations and expiration dates.

Customs officials also apprehended trucks loaded with food items attempting to cross the border into Niger despite existing ECOWAS restrictions and rising food prices within Nigeria. Mr. Oladeji condemned this practice, emphasizing the team’s commitment to stopping such illegal exports and protecting the nation’s food security.

Furthermore, the team seized 60 jerry cans of smuggled petroleum products and several consignments of counterfeit drugs, whose value is yet to be determined. Mr. Oladeji commended the vigilance of his team and emphasized the importance of public cooperation in providing intelligence to combat these activities that harm the economy and public health.
