NANS tries to obstruct the PDP stakeholder meeting in Ibadan during the ASUU strike.
According to the students association, Mr. Atiku’s response to the students’ situation “sends a very bad signal to the generality of Nigerian students.”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders’ meeting is being held in Ibadan, Oyo state, where the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) protest has been relocated from Iwo Road.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which started the industrial action in February, has not received any support from the PDP, according to the association’s spokesperson, Giwa Yetunde, in a statement.
She added that the protest had been diverted to the PDP meeting location because the association had not been given Mr. Atiku’s plan to revitalize the educational sector.
According to the students association, Mr. Atiku’s response to the students’ situation “sends a very bad signal to the generality of Nigerian students that the ruling elites do not have our interests at heart and that there is no difference between the PDP and the All Progressives Congress.”
The statement said, in part, “It is on the basis of the aforementioned that we declare that the Ibadan protest scheduled to hold at Iwo Road shall be moved down to the venue of the PDP’s gathering from wherever our convergence point is.
The National Industrial Court has received a complaint against ASUU from the federal government, represented by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, asking the court to order the union to resume its work while negotiations are being concluded.
Femi Falana, the union’s attorney, claims that the lawsuit is just an attempt to blackmail the union and that operations have not ceased.
