Nationwide blackout as national grid collapses again

The national power grid in Nigeria has experienced another collapse, plunging many Nigerians into darkness and leaving most of the country without electricity. According to a statement, the grid failure occurred around 12:40 a.m. on Thursday.

This incident comes just one week after the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) celebrated 400 days of grid stability. The announcement regarding the grid collapse was made by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) through a statement signed by Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications.

The EEDC confirmed the collapse and informed its customers that, due to the system-wide failure, it is unable to provide power to the five states within its coverage area. The affected states include Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo.

The statement reads: “The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers of a total system collapse which occurred at 12:40 am today, 14th September 2023. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network. Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we cannot provide service to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States. We are awaiting detailed information of the collapse and supply restoration from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo.”
