Two arrested over killing of OAU student for rituals

Two individuals, Akeem Usman and Niyi Ifadowo, have been apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command in connection with the brutal killing of Quadri Salami, an 18-year-old 100-level student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), reportedly for ritualistic purposes.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Omolola Odutola, revealed in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday that the victim’s father reported Salami missing on November 14 at the Kemta Police station. He expressed his inability to locate his son despite extensive efforts.

On Wednesday, Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu led a Tactical Squad to Mile 6 in the Ajebo area of Abeokuta. Following a tracking clue pointing to Usman, who was found in possession of the victim’s phone, the team uncovered a shallow grave containing Salami’s decomposing body parts.

Usman allegedly confessed to the crime, implicating Ifadowo. The heinous act involved slaughtering the victim and dismembering vital parts for ritual purposes. Ifadowo took the deceased’s head and two wrists, paying N100,000 into Usman’s account from the sale of other body parts. The suspects further admitted to selling the victim’s body parts to Internet fraudsters.

The confiscated heart, two legs, and flesh were buried in a plastic rubber for rituals, while the remaining parts were used for criminal activities. Both suspects are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, undergoing a continuation of the investigation. They will be prosecuted for their crimes.

The PPRO emphasized the commitment of the Commissioner of Police to ensuring justice is served. She urged parents to collaborate with the police by providing information to eradicate such nefarious practices that endanger innocent lives.
