UK Urges Nigerian Government To Carry Out The People’s Will.

The Nigerian government has been requested by the United Kingdom (UK) to closely review the objections put forth by opposition parties regarding the 2023 presidential election.

On Wednesday, a declaration to this effect was issued by James Cleverly, the British Foreign Secretary.

The United Kingdom applauds Nigerian electors for participating in the Presidential and National Assembly elections as well as for their perseverance and fortitude in exercising their political rights. We congratulate Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the incoming president,” Cleverly stated.

“We take notice of the opposition parties’ stance on the results of the election and the worries voiced by observer missions and civil society organizations about how the process was organized, including any delays and technical difficulties. We implore the authorities to carefully consider every concern, move to address any unresolved problems, and concentrate on carrying out the wishes of the Nigerian people.

The UK prime minister, Rishi Sunak, praised Tinubu on Wednesday in a tweet.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and a few other opposing groups have voiced their displeasure with how the elections were handled on Saturday.

These political parties mentioned a failure to instantly upload the results of the vote after they were cast at the polling places. They also emphasized pervasive violence and intimidation of voters.

In accordance with Section 65 of the Electoral Act, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) head, Mahmood Yakubu, stated that the commission would review the presidential election as needed.
