Vice President’s Office Pays N10m Hotel Bills of Tinubu’s Daughter’s Guests

The Office of the Vice President of Nigeria reportedly disbursed a sum of N10 million to cover hotel expenses incurred by guests of Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of President Bola Tinubu, according to information obtained by FIJ (Foundation for Investigative Journalism).

The payment, dated November 17, 2023, was made to Royal Pacific Group, with the description indicating, “Payment in favour of Fraser Suites, Abuja, Nigeria, for the settlement of hotel accommodation bills for the service rendered to guests of Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo.”

FIJ discovered this transaction record on the BudgIT Govspend platform, sourced from the publicly available Open Treasury Portal.

Folashade Tinubu-Ojo holds the position of the national leader of Nigerian traders, often referred to as the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria. Despite not holding an elected government position, she began styling herself as the first daughter of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in May 2023.

Records from as far back as June 11, 2019, reveal regular payments by various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to Royal Pacific Group for guest accommodations. However, this particular payment marks the first instance of such funds being used for guests of a private citizen.

FIJ attempted to reach Ibrahim Hadejia, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President in the Office of the Vice President, but contact information could not be obtained. Furthermore, calls made to Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President on Monday, were unsuccessful, and a text message sent to him remained unanswered as of the press time.
