The Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has announced that starting from 2024, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will conduct an Aptitude Test for all Direct Entry candidates. The test will be used to assess the candidates’ academic potential, career suitability, as well as their mental and physical capacity.

This decision was reiterated during a virtual meeting with Commissioners of Education from the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory. A special bulletin published by the Board quoted Oloyede as saying this.

Oloyede clarified that the aptitude test would not cover traditional subjects like Mathematics, Chemistry, Government, Physics, etc. Instead, it would include Verbal, Abstract, Mechanical and Numeric Reasoning, Data Checking, and Work Sampling.

The Registrar has announced that Direct Entry registration will only take place at JAMB Offices across the country. During registration, DE candidates will need to provide important information such as the Registration/Matriculation Number of their previous school, their qualifications and the subjects they studied, the institution they attended, the year they graduated, and admission letters where necessary.

This decision has been made to improve the evaluation of candidates’ cognitive abilities and suitability for their chosen academic or career paths.
