JAMB to exclude diagrams from questions for blind candidates

In a recent virtual meeting with the Commissioners of Education across the nation, the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, announced a significant development aimed at fostering inclusivity within the examination system.

To accommodate candidates with disabilities, particularly the visually impaired, JAMB has decided to exclude diagrams, illustrations, and maps from test items in the 2024 UTME. Prof. Oloyede emphasized the Board’s commitment to ensuring that questions for blind candidates have similar difficulty indices as other test items.

The Registrar highlighted concerns regarding the adequacy of attention given to candidates with disabilities other than blindness and deafness during the UTME registration and examination process. He reiterated that these measures were implemented to ensure that candidates with any form of disability are not disadvantaged due to their situation.

This decision aligns with the resolutions made at the recently concluded conference titled “National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria,” organized by JAMB.
