LASU Vice-Chancellor warns the general public on admission racketeering; In light of the commencement of the 2023/2024 Admission exercise, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, the Vice Chancellor of LASU, has issued a stern warning to the public regarding admission racketeering.

During a meeting with the Independent Indigenship Verification Committee, she expressed her administration’s determination to take decisive action against anyone involved in such illicit activities.

The Vice-Chancellor addressed the issue of unscrupulous individuals who exploit applicants by taking money in exchange for the promise of securing admission. These individuals are known to operate from makeshift offices under trees, shops, and even staff offices.

She urged them to refrain from such practices, as the consequences would be severe if caught. To tackle this issue, the State Security Service (SSS) has been enlisted to identify and apprehend these individuals, as the University will not tolerate tarnishing its reputation.

Furthermore, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello advised aspiring students and their parents not to fall victim to such fraudulent schemes by paying money to anyone offering admission into the University. She emphasized that such efforts are bound to fail.

In the context of admission statistics, Lagos State University emerged as one of the most sought-after universities in Nigeria during the 2023 JAMB Examination, with over 55 thousand applicants selecting it as their preferred choice. However, the University has set a minimum cutoff score of 195 for candidates to be eligible for admission to the institution.
