PSN Holds Anti-Drug Campaign In Ogun State; The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) in Ogun state has unveiled plans to educate secondary school students on the dangers of drug abuse. This initiative is part of the PSN’s activities in commemoration of the 2023 World Pharmacist Day.

Adewale Adenugba, the Chairman of PSN in Ogun state, revealed these plans in a statement on Monday. He explained that in addition to the educational outreach to schools, the association intends to visit prisons and orphanages, providing essential medications to underserved communities.

Mr. Adenugba emphasized the importance of the PSN’s role in healthcare administration and promotion. The 2023 celebration of World Pharmacist Day will involve medical outreaches to key communities within the state. During these outreaches, the association will conduct necessary medical investigations, provide health education, and donate medications to communities in need.

He highlighted that pharmacists play crucial roles in healthcare, offering accessible and affordable healthcare solutions to communities and contributing to improved healthcare standards nationwide.

However, Mr. Adenugba called for pharmacists to be allowed to prescribe and initiate medications, asserting that they have the expertise to manage patients with long-term conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and HIV. He stressed that leveraging the skills of community pharmacists could alleviate pressure on other areas of the healthcare system and save time.

The PSN’s initiative not only raises awareness about the dangers of drug abuse but also underscores the valuable contributions of pharmacists to healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
