The Centre for Creative Writing, established in March 2023, is dedicated to nurturing creative writing talents within Nigeria and across Africa. UNIABUJA Professional Postgraduate Programmes in Creative Writing, 2022/2023 The professional programs offered are:

1. Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Writing (PGD)
2. Master’s Degree in Creative Writing (MA)
3. Doctorate Degree in Creative Writing (PhD)

General Admission Requirements

For admission into the Professional PGD and MA programmes, the academic prerequisites include:

• A BA or BSc degree from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and 60% on research work in fields such as English, Literature, Theatrical Arts, Linguistics, Journalism, Mass and Public Communication, History, Art History, Religious Studies, Philosophy, or Education.
• Candidates with a social science degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND) will also be considered, provided they submit a profile demonstrating creative writing experience, along with the degree or certification, and express willingness to undertake remedial coursework.

Academic requirements for admission into the PhD programme include:

• A Master of Arts or Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing or a relevant postgraduate degree from a recognized institution, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and 60% on research work.
• Students with a PGD will have additional remedial coursework.

Duration of Programs

• Postgraduate Diploma: 8 months
• Master’s Degree: 2 years
• Doctorate Degree: 3-4 years
