Unilorin Prepares to Launch Its Own Television Station: VC; Ilorin, Nigeria – The University of Ilorin (Unilorin) is gearing up for the launch of its own television station, according to Prof. Wahab Egbewole, the Vice Chancellor of the university.

Mr. Egbewole made this announcement during a visit from the Kwara chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), led by newly elected council member Saudat Abdulbaqi.

The vice chancellor revealed that the university is in the advanced stages of setting up Unilorin’s television station and is even considering visiting other universities’ television stations to gather insights from their experiences.

He expressed confidence that the new station’s operation will not only enhance the university’s visibility but also further boost its already appealing image.

Mr. Egbewole extended his congratulations to Ms. Abdulbaqi for her recent election as a member of the NIPR Council, emphasizing the university’s pride in her professional achievements. He voiced his optimism about Ms. Abdulbaqi’s successful tenure.

Furthermore, the vice chancellor justified the university’s active involvement in supporting its staff members in the NIPR, vowing to continue encouraging their career development. He assured the NIPR staff members of the university’s backing for their development needs, including sponsoring interested members for NIPR training and development programs.

Mr. Egbewole urged them to consistently represent and promote the university’s image, emphasizing that public relations fundamentally relies on perceptions, which can shape reality. He anticipates increased NIPR activities both on campus and throughout Kwara State, with the hope that Unilorin staff members will play more prominent roles at the national level of the NIPR.

In response, Ms. Abdulbaqi commended the vice chancellor for his unwavering support during her election process and shared how she was motivated by Mr. Egbewole’s encouragement to give her best in her successful bid.

As Unilorin prepares to make its debut in the broadcasting arena, all eyes are on the university’s upcoming television station.
