UNIOSUN VC appoints Oyeweso As Provost of Postgraduate College; The Acting Provost of the Postgraduate College at the University, Professor Siyan Oyeweso, has been appointed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor ‘Ayo Clement Adebooye.

This announcement was made officially through a statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, on Tuesday, February 20th, 2024.

According to the statement, Professor Oyeweso’s responsibilities include overseeing Postgraduate studies within the University and reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor. His appointment, effective from February 14th, 2024, marks another milestone in his academic journey.

Professor Oyeweso, a distinguished scholar in History, obtained his undergraduate degree with Second Class (Upper Division) honors from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University). He further pursued his academic pursuits, obtaining both his M.A. and Ph.D. from the same institution.

The statement further highlights Professor Oyeweso’s extensive contributions to the University. He has held various significant positions, including serving as the inaugural Provost of the College of Humanities and Culture at the Ikire Campus and establishing the UNIOSUN Business School.

Additionally, he has chaired crucial committees and directed essential departments such as the Centre for Human Resource Development and Life-Long Learning and the Advancement Directorate.

Acknowledged for his scholarly prowess, Professor Oyeweso is a distinguished Fellow of the Historical Society of Nigeria and a member of the esteemed Nigerian Academy of Letters. His remarkable academic achievements and scholarly contributions have garnered international recognition.

Known for his compelling oratory skills, he has been honored with numerous national and international awards and research grants. Through his prolific writings dating back to 1986, Professor Oyeweso has solidified his reputation as a preeminent authority on Nigerian history, politics, religion, and culture.
