The Emerald Energy Institute is dedicated to providing graduate education in the fields of petroleum, energy economics, management, and policy. It aims to empower and educate professionals and corporate decision-makers in the petroleum and energy sectors. The institute collaborates with the Petroleum Engineering Department to offer a modular, flexible, and intensive Ph.D. programme.

Admission Requirements for Postgraduate Programmes:

PGD Programme:

  • A good Bachelor’s degree in Sciences (Physical/Chemical), Management, Social Sciences, Geosciences, or Engineering.
  • Holders of HND with a minimum Upper Credit may also apply.

Master’s Programmes:

  • A minimum of Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in a relevant field in Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Law, Sciences, Geosciences, or Engineering.
  • Candidates with Second Class Honours (Lower Division) and at least 3 years’ experience in the energy and petroleum industry may be considered.

M.Sc. Programmes:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree with a minimum of Second Class (Upper Division) in Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Engineering, or Physical Sciences.
  • Sponsored company staff and candidates with at least three (3) years’ experience in the petroleum and energy industries having a Second Class (Lower Division) Degree with a minimum CGPA of at least 3.00 (on a 5-point scale) may also be considered.
  • Law degree holders with enough years of experience in the oil, gas, and power industry may be considered.

Ph.D. Programmes:

  • B.Sc. Second Class Upper (or Lower Division degree with a CGPA of 3.0 and above on a 5-point scale) in Social and Management Sciences, Engineering, or Geosciences with at least three years’ experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Completion of an M.Sc. degree in appropriate majors, with a minimum CGPA of 4.00 on a 5-point scale.

The curriculum for these programmes is flexible and intensive, delivered in modules by University faculty and industry experts. Graduates of these programmes will acquire skills relevant to careers in petroleum and energy industries, government ministries, banking/financial institutions, and energy and petroleum policy consulting units, among others.

Programme Durations:

  • PGD Programme: 12 months (Full time) or 24 months (Part-time for industry/company workers)
  • Professional Master’s Programmes: 18 to 24 months
  • M.Sc. Programmes: 6 quarters (Full-time) or 8 quarters (Modular intensive)
  • Ph.D. Programme: A minimum of 12 quarters of intensive coursework

Application Fee:

A non-refundable Application Fee of N30,000 (Thirty Thousand Naira) is payable to Emerald Energy Institute, UNIPORT. Completed Application Forms can be submitted online or in hard copies to the Emerald Energy Institute office via courier service. Application Forms can be obtained from the institute or downloaded from their website: www.eeiuniport.edu.ng.

Applicants must ensure that completed Application Forms are returned to the Director of the Emerald Energy Institute within eight (8) weeks from the date of publication. Selected candidates may be invited for an oral interview before final admission is granted.
