EFCC Arraigns Former ABU’s VC And Bursar For Alleged 1 Billion Naira Fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has charged Professor Ibrahim Garba, a former vice chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, with eight counts of theft and money laundering involving more over N1 billion.
On January 12, 2023, Garba and Ibrahim Shehu Usman, the university’s former bursar, appeared in court before the Kaduna State High Court.
The Kaduna Zonal Command of the EFCC presented the former Vice Chancellor and Bursar for trial before Justice A.A. Bello.
The two senior former ABU executives were charged after months of covert investigation, according to the EFCC, which was sparked by a petition accusing them of stealing funds intended for the popular Kongo Conference Hotel in Zaria’s renovation.
According to the EFCC, its investigation found that the defendants reportedly stole over one billion naira from the institution’s various accounts and transferred it to their individual accounts.
