Bode Agusto, the former Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation and the founder of Agusto & Co, Nigeria’s first credit rating agency, has passed away at the age of 68. The news was confirmed by Olufemi M. Awoyemi, the current CEO, Founder, and Chairman of Proshare Nigeria, through his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

Awoyemi remembered Bode Agusto as a pioneer who emphasized the importance of respecting facts and data in various engagements. He praised Agusto as a great human being and an excellent teacher, noting the lasting impact of his teachings on their career paths.

Before his demise, Bode Agusto served as an independent consultant in economics, finance, and business strategy. Agusto & Co., founded in 1992, was instrumental in introducing credit rating services to Nigeria. The company received official licensing from the Securities and Exchange Commission, becoming the nation’s first-ever credit rating agency, with Bode Agusto serving as Managing Director for 11 years.
