Hushpuppi’s sentencing date is confirmed by the US court, but Kyari’s extradition is not discussed.

Hushpuppi’s sentencing date is confirmed by the US court, but Kyari’s extradition is not discussed.

The punishment date for alleged worldwide Internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, alias, Hushpuppi, is still scheduled for September 21, 2022, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, Los Angeles.

Thom Mrozek, the court’s director of media relations, revealed this on Friday in answer to a Channels Television email request.

Hushpuppi’s punishment date has been postponed by the court at least three times since his conviction last year for an alleged $1.1 million fraud. Initially set on February 14, Hushpuppi’s sentencing was later moved to July 11 and then rescheduled for September 21 of this year.

When asked when Hushpuppi, 39, would receive his court term, Mrozek said that the suspect had long since entered a guilty plea last year and would receive his sentence later this year. On September 21, a federal judge in Los Angeles is slated to sentence Mr. Abbas, the man claimed.

Hushpuppi accepted a plea deal and admitted guilt to the accusations the court had filed against him, including wire fraud and money laundering.

He faces “20 years in jail, three years of supervised release, a fine of $500,000 or double the gross gain or gross loss resulting from the offense,” according to court documents.

Along with 12 other people, he was detained in Dubai in June 2020 and later deported to the US for prosecution.

      Kyari’s extradition

However, Mrozek remained mute regarding the potential extradition of DCP Abba Kyari, the suspended head of the police intelligence response team who was charged by the federal bureau of investigation in the Hushpuppi case.

Over a year prior, the court had instructed the FBI to detain Kyari.

The court representative replied, “I am unable to make any comment on Mr. Kyari’s condition.

Hushpuppi allegedly hired Kyari after a “co-conspirator,” Chibuzo Vincent, allegedly threatened to reveal the alleged $1.1 million fraud committed against a Qatari businessman, according to allegations made by FBI Special Agent Andrew Innocenti.

Innocenti had also asserted that he overheard talks on WhatsApp between Hushpuppi and Kyari, stating that the police officer had been paid $20,600 for the arrest and imprisonment of Vincent.

In July 2021, Kyari debunked the claims on Facebook, however he later removed the post.

Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, stated on Channels Television’s Politics Today that the Nigerian and American governments were reviewing Kyari’s issue and that there were legitimate reasons to suspect Kyari.

“A number of topics, including the potential for extradition, are still open for discussion. The partnership component of it enters into play at that point, the AGF had stated regarding Kyari’s potential extradition.

The suspended deputy police commissioner has subsequently been charged by Kyari, who was later detained by the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency in February for alleged drug-related offenses.

Kyari and his co-defendants are being held without bond at the Kuje jail in Abuja, and on August 30, 2022, they will appear before Justice Emeka Nwite of a Federal High Court in Abuja.
