ICPC arraigns TASUED lecturer accused of soliciting sex from a student

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has charged a lecturer at Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) with extorting sexual and monetary favors from a female student.

Dr. Olaniran Balogun, the Head of the Department of Religious Studies, was previously proclaimed wanted by the ICPC in August 2022, after he was accused of suspected abuse of office and demanding payoff.

Olaniran was charged with a single count of violating Section 8(1)(a) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000 before Hon. Judge Osinuga of the Ijebu-Ode High Court in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The ICPC revealed in its filing that Dr. Olaniran, while serving as Head of the Department of Religious Studies at TASUED between October and November 2021, demanded sexual favors or N100,000 from a female student in exchange for a promise to change her academic grades from fail to pass in two courses.

Olaniran, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

The trial judge admitted the defendant to bail of N500,000 with a surety in like sum. The surety must provide evidence of 3 years of tax clearance and evidence of means. The case was then adjourned to the 11th of May 2023.
