The PUNCH: The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike’s team has given a condition for holding peace talks with the representatives of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar on Friday. Sources in the governor’s team told The PUNCH on Wednesday that Wike’s men would, on getting to the meeting, insist on the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, as a condition for the talks to proceed.
The Guardian: The national grid, yesterday, crashed to zero megawatts, throwing businesses and homes across the country into darkness as workers at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) embarked on strike. This latest grid collapse, nearly the 10th this year, is coming amid high cost of diesel, which is already hovering above N800 per litre, as well as increasing cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) despite the over N5 trillion subsidy currently being paid by the Federal Government.
The Nation: The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, has said the commission had secured 4,430 convictions in 19 months. Bawa urged the media to expose the corrupt in the society instead of celebrating them. The EFCC boss said the war against corruption is a worthy fight to save the soul of Nigeria and secure the future generations.
Daily Trust: The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Wednesday promised that the results of the 2023 general elections would be transmitted electronically. There have been calls by stakeholders that the deployment of technology in the country’s electoral processes be enhanced to address hitches witnessed in previous elections.
