Pilot Arrested For Forex Fraud
The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended Captain Nuhu Haruna on allegations of criminal breach of trust involving the sum of N1,020,000,000 (One Billion, Twenty Million Naira only).
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by a petitioner who claimed that in December 2023, they were introduced to Haruna for a foreign exchange transaction totaling N1,020,000.00. Allegedly, the petitioner transferred the funds to Haruna’s account expecting the equivalent in dollars. However, Haruna purportedly provided falsified evidence of payment, and the petitioner never received the expected dollar equivalent.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Haruna, who purportedly identified as an airline captain, diverted the funds for personal use, intending to invest in his alleged airline company, Air Unity Aviation Services. Assets traced to him included a landed property purchased at N155,000,000 and another at N350,000,000, as well as three 18-seater Toyota Hiace buses bearing the Air Unity Aviation Services logo and four luxury vehicles.
Haruna is slated to face charges in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
