Strike: KASU orders lecturers to return to work or face disciplinary action.

The management of Kaduna State University has ordered its lecturers to resume work or face sanctions under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

This was stated in a circular signed by the university’s Registrar, Samuel Manship, on Monday, September 5, stating that if the lecturers failed to comply with the resumption directives, the institution would be forced to invoke Section 2(2) of the Staff Conditions of Service.

All Provosts, Deans, Department Heads, and Units were directed to compile and submit the names of staff who complied.

Remember that during a radio interview, Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai called for the suspension of the ongoing strike and the immediate resumption of academic activities, despite the fact that the strike had nothing to do with state-owned universities. If the striking lecturers do not return to work, the governor has threatened to stop paying their salaries and declare their positions vacant.

The KASU chapter of ASUU, however, dismissed the governor’s threats as a bluff and instructed its members and students to disregard the directive because the strike could only be suspended by the union’s national leadership.
