He emphasized that student dues are centrally allocated and urged departments to utilize these funds for their needs, refraining from additional collections. Stressing the impact of current hardships, he urged staff not to compound students’ challenges.

Expressing concern, the Senate Chairman condemned the exorbitant fees charged for file jackets and indigenship, deeming it cruel. He appointed Professor Bennett Ozioma Orluweni, Director of the University Bookshop and Printing Press, to oversee the printing and distribution of file jackets to departments.

He demanded an immediate refund of unlawfully collected funds or warned of severe consequences under university law. Emphasizing that such fees lacked university approval, he urged staff to desist from tarnishing the institution’s reputation and seek ethical means of earning income.

Professor Onuchuku announced the Christmas holiday break from December 18, 2023, to January 8, 2024, and, accompanied by Senate members, inaugurated projects aimed at enhancing the safety of female students in the hostels, such as fencing and security posts.
