The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has stated that the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) Plc has the ability to print the necessary quantity of the Naira notes.
This was said in a statement released on Saturday by Osita Nwanisobi, Director of Corporate Communications at the apex bank.
Nwanisobi added that the central bank was making every effort to spread the freshly redesigned naira notes throughout the nation.
This occurred in the wake of reports that the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, blamed a lack of printing supplies at the NSPMC, better known as the Mint, for the current difficulty in the distribution of the freshly redesigned naira notes.
According to reports, Emefiele informed the leaders that the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Plc (The Mint) was experiencing capacity issues, which prevented it from producing enough new notes to replace the outdated N200, N500, and 1,000 notes.
“The paper needed to produce N500 and N1,000 notes have run out at the Mint. They have placed orders with a German company and De La Rue in the UK (for papers), but due to a lengthy waiting list, their orders are currently unable to be fulfilled.
But according to Nwanisobi, the CBN governor never mentioned during his presentation to the National Council of States that the Mint was unable to create the necessary banknotes.
The statement reads, “The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been made aware of a false report misquoting the Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, as attributing the current difficulty in the distribution of the recently redesigned naira banknotes to a shortage of printing materials at the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Plc.
The CBN Governor never mentioned this during his presentation to the National Council of State at its meeting on February 10, 2023, we want to make that clear.
For the record, Mr. Emefiele stated at the meeting that the NSPMC was striving to print all Naira denominations to satisfy Nigerians’ transaction demands.
“The CBN acknowledges the concerns expressed by all parties over the distribution of the Naira, but we are disturbed at the extent to which special interests are attempting to distort the truth and turn the people against the Bank.
For the avoidance of doubt, the CBN continues to be committed to carrying out its monetary policy duties in accordance with the CBN Act, 2007, as amended. We would also like to reiterate that the NSPMC is capable of producing the necessary Naira indent and has access to the necessary materials.
As we diligently seek to expand the circulation of the new notes in the country, the Bank consequently wishes to appeal to the public to dismiss the abovementioned report and exercise more restraint.
“Similarly, a false voice note that is currently floating on social media claims that the CBN planned to close down some banks, especially in a specific geographic area of the nation.
“We want to make it clear that there is no such scheme and that the accusations are absurd and inconsistent with how the Nigerian banking sector operates. The public is therefore urged to disregard such recordings since they do not reflect the CBN’s policy objectives and are instead the last-ditch efforts of individuals determined to incite the public against the Bank, according to a portion of the statement.

After allegations against him, including an attempted rape, were dismissed, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reportedly called the striker Mason Greenwood.
The Sun reports that Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag called suspended player Mason Greenwood and expressed his “pleasure” at the dismissal of many criminal accusations brought against him.
A court appearance for this month has been set for Greenwood, who was detained on charges of attempted rape, assault, and coercive and controlling behavior back in January 2022.
On February 2, the Crown Prosecution Service decided there was “no longer a reasonable possibility of conviction,” and the 21-year-old had all charges against him dismissed.
The player was suspended by United immediately after the allegations were made, and the club is currently carrying out its own internal investigation.
Although a source told The Sun that head coach Ten Hag recently spoke with the 21-year-old on the phone after the charges were dropped, it is believed that the club had little communication with Greenwood throughout.
The player’s physical and mental health are believed to have been examined by the Dutchman, who is said to have been “pleased” that the allegations against him had been withdrawn.

It was one surreal day, around 4:00 pm or so, and I was out on our street for a reason I can’t really remember now, I was pretty young then. Then as I got to the maisuya end of our busy street, I noticed this huge and electrified crowd thronging after a slowly-moving convoy.At the centre was a white limousine and from the sunroof, was a man full of charming smiles, waving to the frenzied crowd, he looked very smart and handsome and he was also wearing white, all white, the hat too was white.It was quite a dazzling spectacle. The limo was headed towards the city stadium where he had a show. I had just set my eyes on Africa’s greatest magician, ‘Professor Peller’. And Abiyamo would never see him again. But for a young African child who was also seeing alimousine for the very first time or so, it was truly a magical moment for me. He performed and left my state leaving incredible tales of outstanding feats. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a piece on Nigeria’s most famous magician, Professor Peller. For about thirty years,Peller held the world’s most populous black nation spellbound with millions gasping at the whisk of his wand. I hope you find this magical.
BIRTH AND EARLY DAYS
He was born in 1941 at Iseyin, Oyo State and he was named Moshood Folorunsho Abiola. He would laterpick on the stage name of ‘Professor Peller’, an appellation that has stuck to him like a second skin.
HIS MAGICAL PERFORMANCES AND EXPLOITS
When Professor Peller was alive, he was the most brilliant magician in all of Africa. I am not too sure if the record has been broken.Even in death, Peller remains the greatest of all. He performed not only before princes but also held kings spellbound with his magic. Here is how Femi Oyebode, a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Birmingham described Peller and one of his shows in 1972 at theGeorge V Stadium in Lagos (that is the old name of the Onikan Stadium):
My last ever visit to the stadium was to see Professor Peller, a magician, and said to be a member of the Magic Circle take on the last of our traditional magicians whose name now escapes me (itself asignificant fact). Professor Peller was dressed in black tails, a top hat, a wand in one hand, black shoes and well-cut hair. He was a perfect picture of debonair gentleman and was assisted by an attractive young woman. He flicked his white handkerchief and a white dove flew out.He pulled at his cuff links and flowers bloomed under his command. He was confident, majestic. He was suave and graceful. He levitated his assistant.
He cut her in two without drawing blood. He locked her in a cupboard, chained up several times over yet she disappeared!
It was a masterly performance. The crowd clapped, hooped. We were seduced against our better judgment. We wished desperately that the traditional magician would enthrall and endear us to his magic, the mysteries of African magic. We were disappointed or shall I say that I wasdisappointed. When he came on stage dressed only in a loincloth of indeterminate color, you could hear the audience gasp aloud.
Was this African magic? This crude, little thin man who seemed recently woken from the dead? He swallowed a stone and turned his backside to us,
slipping his loincloth to one side and excreted the stone. Awfulness and shame. He submitted his abdomen to a sharp sword to be sliced open. But by now, the absence of razzmatazz and of finesse had turned us against him. The crowd poured through the gates.That was how disgusted we were. You can say that at George V stadium, in early adulthood I lost two of my childhood dreams.
A master at his craft and a consummate entertainer, he cast a most powerful spell on the following African leaders, right in their presidential palaces:
-The late President Gnassingbe Eyadema of Togo (Eyadema later died after spending 38 years in power, he was the longest-serving ruler in Africa when he died in 2005 (see his picture below). His son, Faure, is currently the President of Togo).
-The late President Samuel Kanyon
Doe of Liberia (see picture below). There is an interesting story behind his performance for the late strongman of Monrovia. There was a time Peller had a performance in Liberia in the 1970s and the crowd was just too massive. The Liberian government drafted security forcesto the venue of the act to control the surging crowd. One of those responsible for maintaining security that day at Peller’s performance was a young man called Samuel Doe. So when Doe became President, he summoned Peller, Nigeria’s finest magician to come perform for him.Such was the stellar performance of Peller. Doe said he was busy controlling the surging crowd and he could not witness the even properly as at that time when he was a junior soldier.
The former President of Benin Republic, Mathieu Kerekou was also one of those who patronized Peller
Apart from the Presidents mentioned above, Peller also reigned supreme in Nigeria. It was like there was no other conjurer in the land. Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the late Premier of the Western Region was one of those he used to entertain regularly.
-Peller was a prolific magician with many shows, some of which were the Invisible General, the Escaping Box, Changing Dresses and the Zigzag. One thing with Peller’s performances is that they were executed with maximum finesse
and excellence. He was thorough and professional. Perhaps, if not for death, he might have even eclipsed David Copperfield of the USA in fame. Copperfield is presently the greatest magician on earth and the first person to make one billion dollars from magic.-While growing up, he was nicknamed Moshood Olori Pupa (Moshood the Red-Headed Boy).
-One of his classical performances included putting his wife in a ‘magical coffin’ and severing the same coffin into two halves with a ‘magic coffin’.

For a man who was a showstopper at any events, it is no surprise that not a few women fell for the enchanting spell of Nigeria’s most famous magician. He was a man of many women and married many of them.
However, the best known of these ladies, with whom he performed his magic tricks is Alhaja Silifat Adeboyin Peller, The whole of Nigeria knew her as Lady Peller and she is most famous for the act in which she was ‘sliced’ into pieces by Peller and had a hard timeputting her back. Now 66 years of age with her husband gone and not remarrying, she is tending to her grandchildren while reminiscing over the glittering wonders of an empire of magic that once held sway. Lady Peller was born in Kishi, Oyo State where her father was theChief Imam and had five children for him, while also raising many other step-children.
However, unknown to many, their rosy marriage later had a deep crack to the extent that they were not staying together anymore. When Peller was killed at his
Onipanu residence, he was in Lagos State for a function while Lady Peller was living at the GRA, Ikeja. Although they were not officially separated as they still saw regularly, Peller checked on her in Ikeja but met her absence. As at that time, they had already reconciled andwere even planning on coming back together before Peller was prematurely silenced by the assassin’s bullets.
Peller left a message for her to check on him as he was not feeling well and was rushed to Ibadan for treatment. Lady Peller was furious as to why he was taken to Ibadan
since they had family doctors at the Ajayi Memorial Hospital and the EKO Hospital in Lagos but upon getting to Ibadan, she was simply told that Peller was dead. She fainted immediately only to wake up to a bucket of water and intense fanning by family members. She said:“It was a great shock and I had never seen that kind of things. I don’t ever wish to go through that kind of thing again.” While he was alive, he also taught her some magic and ensured she got some training in Michigan, USA. Little wonder they always performed togetherand as far as she is concerned, her religion is not against the brand of magic she performed with her late husband because according to her, ‘it was not fetish’. She still remembers the very good old days and says she will not remarry and will still marry him over and over again, rounding off: They only want to enjoy what Professor Peller was enjoying for several years. But they can’t have it.”
Alhaja Silifat Abiola Peller, the wife of late magician, Professor Peller, has opened up on why the popular socialite was killed.
While speaking in an interview with BBC News Yoruba, Mrs Peller revealed that the assassination of her husband was made possible because of the personal information he leaked to the media after a performance she had with her husband that got everyone scared.She said during the performance, the late magician sliced her into two on stage but found it difficult to restore her back to normal.
“On that unforgettable day, Professor Peller performed at the National Theatre. He sliced Lady Peller into two but found it difficult
to restore her back to normal,” she said.
“He did his best to the point of sweating which was noticed by the spectators. The show ended at that point.
“Thanks to God, Lady Peller later came back to life. But people were yet to know until the following day.
“While Professor Peller was performing (the following day), the spectators were not all that interested. All they wanted to see was Lady Peller.
“As soon as they saw me, they were excited to the point that some of them called it a day, saying my appearance was entertaining enough.”
Silifat said presidents and prominent people used to come to the shows which they performed across the world.
On how she heard of her husband’s death, she said she was in Lagos when she got the information.
“It was an unfortunate day which I
can’t really explain. Some said I fainted and later got revive after water was poured on me,” she said.
On how her husband died, Silifat said “He was observing the Sujud prayer when he died.”
She continued, “The media knows how to ask questions that can
make one say things he ought not to say.
“Professor Peller was asked by the media to reveal the particular time he could be found without his powers.
“He told them that he could only be found without his powers when he’s observing the Islamic prayers.
“That’s what Professor Peller said that led to his fall.”
Silifat said the assassins who killed the magician ensured they carried out the act at the time he was observing prayers.

Mass communication has been divided into three categories as a field of study, according to Professor Idris Mohammed Bugaje, Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, on Saturday.
He added that students might concentrate in a particular area of mass communication, unlike in the past, which was divided into Journalism and Media Studies, Strategic Communication and Media Studies, and Film and Multimedia Production.
In remarks made on Saturday at the conclusion of a five-day review of the new course curriculum by significant stakeholders in Kaduna, Bugaje, who was represented by his Special Assistant, Mallam Ibrahim Bashir Bello, said that the courses would be taught at the Higher Diploma Level in all Technical, Vocational, and Colleges of Education Study Centers across the nation. He also urged the various Institutions to sponsor lecturers to update their knowledge on the courses.
Mallam Lawal Umar Maradun, chief professor at the Abdu Gusau Federal Polytechnic in Zamfara State’s mass communication department, praised the NBTE for the move and said it had provided some respite to the polytechnic lecturers, who may now focus on a specific area of specialization.
Mr. Jide Johnson, the resource person, indicated that the new curriculum had received professional criticism and would train Nigerian journalists in modern media techniques.

Dr Khadijat Toyin Musah hails from Balogun Gambari in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State. The firstborn of her family has made many firsts in her career as a nurse. The multi talented scholar, whose passion for education knows no bound, told Daily Trust on Sunday that she was not satisfied with two doctorate and three masters’ degrees, as well as other issues.
How would you describe your years of growing up as a girl-child?
I always become nostalgic whenever I remember those good old days when the upbringing of a child was a communal responsibility – every member of the community was involved. We were brought up to respect our elders, including those who were not biologically related to us. So a child would always avoid any act of indiscipline, having it in mind that he/she could be reprimanded by any adult in the community.
It is a pity that some of these societal values have been eroded and compromised in the name of civilisation and our society is the worst for it. I was brought up to appreciate the value of hard work. My father was a popular merchant dealing in buying and selling of cattle while my mother was a trader.
You are highly educated, how did you achieve that?
I was fortunate to have parents who were determined to give me the best in terms of education and also inculcated in me the moral value. I thank the Almighty Allah that I was able to make use of the opportunities. Typical of an average Ilorin child, I was enrolled in an Arabic school, where I learnt the rudiments of Arabic and Islamic education. I remain grateful to my parents for providing me with these great opportunities that have been of tremendous help to me in all facets of my life
What informed your chosen career?
Alhamdulillah! I will say that nursing has been the profession of my choice even before I entered secondary school. I always love to assist people around me; and I don’t like seeing people experiencing any form of pain or suffering. So it was natural when I had to choose a career/profession. I naturally went for nursing science, and, Alhamdulillaahi, it turned out to be a right choice for me. I feel highly fulfilled as an advanced nursing practitioner with specialisation in community health and geriatrics.
Did your spouse play any role in all of these?
He played a great role and is still playing. I met my husband when I was about to enroll in the School of Nursing, Oshogbo. At that time, I was not ready for marriage because of my strong desire to acquire more education although my parents were already mounting pressure on me. My fear was whether I would still be able to continue my education after marriage. I am, however, grateful to Allah for giving me the right man who lived to his promise that he would give me all the necessary support and encouragement to get to the peak of my career. I owe my success to the tremendous support of my spouse, Alhaji Zakari Musah, a successful banker. He gave me all the support. I thank him for standing by his promise and lending a helping hand during house chores.

Tell us more about your education?
Fundamentals of Clinical Practice for Public Health Nursing Officers for the proposal on the commencement of nursing programme.
Presently, I have been appointed to the Faculty of Nursing Sciences, University of Abuja as the pioneer dean for the commencement of nursing programme. I have visited states in the USA, England, Germany and Australia on account of scholarly activities and adventure.
I had the privilege as a co-author of the book Titled ‘’Fundamentals of Clinical Practice for Public Health Nursing Officers – a book that was adopted for the training of Public health nursing officers in Nigeria. By the grace of Almighty Allah, I have the singular opportunity for the presentation that got KWASU Senate approval for the proposal on the nursing program which is yet to commence.
Currently, I have been appointed to the Department of Nursing Sciences, University of Abuja, as the pioneer Head of the department for the commencement of nursing programme.
What has been your biggest motivation?
It is no other thing than the desire to make a difference, and the quest for knowledge.
Have you rested on your oars or you still have other achievements in view?
Have you ever heard the saying, “If you are not growing you are dying?” Without continuous personal and career growth, one will remain stagnant. So, we move. I am working on some other projects.
Any regret thus far, and what would you like to change in your educational path?
There is no regret of any kind and I have nothing to change in my educational trajectory. I chose nursing as a career, branched into public health nursing specialty and made my contributions. I am happy to have chosen to be a nurse. I have contributed to the advancement of both nursing and public health at national and international levels. I thank the Almighty Allah who made it easy.
Apart from academics, what other thing do you do?
I am a cycling enthusiast and Rotarian of repute. I am a member of the Board of Cycling Federation of Nigeria. I even sponsored a cycling programme for the entire 16 local government areas in Kwara State, which got the nod of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other stakeholders on the need to promote health and wellness.
By Allah’s grace, I can describe myself as a balanced woman. I think right, act rightly and avoid stress. Although I am a multi-talented nurse and public health guru, I know my boundaries. My passion for caring led me to establish the Khadijat Toyin Musah (KTM) Foundation.

Killer Cop, Vandi, Pleads Not Guilty For The Murder Of Lagos Lawyer, Bolanle Raheem.
Drambi Vandi, the suspended assistant superintendent of police, entered a not-guilty plea to the murder of Raheem Bolanle, a female attorney from Lagos.
The suspended officer was charged with murder on a single count on Monday before the Lagos State High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square Annex. Vandi pled not guilty to the murder accusation after hearing the charge sheet read to him.
” That you ASP Drambi Vandi on the 25th day of December 2022, at Ajah road, along the Lekki Expressway, Lagos, unlawfully killed one Omobolanle Raheem by shooting the deceased in the chest, contrary to section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015,” the charge read.
The accused was charged before Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun, who agreed to the Attorney General’s plea to remand the defendant at Ikoyi Correctional Facility.

WAEC GCE (1st Series) 2023 registration closes 9th January; In 2018, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) launched two series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates. The inaugural 2023 series will begin in February 2023.
WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2023-First Series would be a city-based exam. It is designed to assist applicants who have gaps in their WASSCE results in bridging the gap. According to the Lander brothers, who were on the coast in 1830, Badagry and Lagos have always belonged to Benin. For centuries, Lagos served as a frontier military and trading post of the Benin Empire for trade between Europe and Africa. Benin, on the other hand, kept a small contingent of soldiers in the area under the command of four military leaders and paid the king of Lagos an annual tribute.
Before it was annexed by Britain via the Lagos Treaty of Cession in 1861, this military presence, along with the trade with European traders, caused an economic boom in Lagos that drew Europeans, Brazilians, Cubans, and Sierra Leoneans.
As a British colony, Lagos developed into a stratified, segregated society with a social divide between a number of groups, with the Saros, Amaros-Agudas, traditional elite, Muslims, and indigenous Africans at the top. Liberated Africans from the Nigerian region were resettled in Sierra Leone under the name Saro (a contraction of Sierra Leonean in the Yoruba language), but they started to return to Lagos, Abeokuta, Ibadan, Calabar, Onitsha, Lokoja, and Port Harcourt as merchants and CMS missionary workers in 1837. They were mostly of Yoruba descent, but they also had Igbo, Nupe, Basa, Hausa, and Efik people living among them.
The Amaros-Agudás were Afro-Brazilian & Afro-Cuban returnees who returned to Nigeria starting about 1830 (Afro-Cubans) and 1852 (Afro-Brazilians) and by 1899 so many had arrived that it was said that one of every seven residents of Lagos had come from Cuba or Brazil. Amaro means “those who stayed outside”) was the name the Yoruba called the Afro-Brazilian & Afro-Cuban Returnee and Aguda was the common name throughout West Africa. The term which possibly was derived from Whydah has come to mean Catholic and with this meaning, it entered the Yoruba vocabulary, as the Amaros-Agudá were mainly catholic unlike the British and Saro population who were mostly protestant.
Between 1850 and 1930, the Saros and the Amaro through established international and modern businesses, and public intuitions, built modern real estate and pioneered most of the schools in Lagos and environ. Obviously, through philanthropy, the introduction of new knowledge and industrial skills, the Saro and Agudá were the engine and workforce behind the rapid development and modernization of Lagos in the 1800s.
Each group resided in separate areas of Lagos. The palace of the Oba is in the northwest corner of Lagos Island, called Isale Eko. The Europeans lived on the Marina (southwestern shore of the island), Saros in an area called Olowogbowo (western point of the island), and the Amaros-Aguda lived in the centre of the island, in the area known as the Brazilian Quarter (or Aguda PoPo), and indigenous Africans on the rest of the island. Europeans formed only a small part of the population in Lagos. There were 111 “whites” in 1881 and 308 in 1901. Saros was estimated to have formed 20% of the population of Lagos, and its vicinity by 1865 and the figure became 2.56% in 1872. The population of Amaros-Agudas was 1,237 in 1872, while that of Saro was 1,533. By 1899, the Amaros-Agudas made up 14% of the residents of Lagos.
The saros were protectants and had acquired the English language, education and way of life in Sierra Leone. This made them the preferred choice of the British colonial government for administrative and public employment. They were active in Lagos society as clergies, colonial civil servants, lawyers, doctors, teachers, publishing and other professionals. The Amaros-Agudás tended to be Catholic with high industrial skills and spoke Portuguese. They were masons, carpenters, painters, locksmiths, tailors, shoemakers’ seamstresses, cooks, and bakers Consequently, the locals and even the Saros, whom the Aguda dismissively called òyinbó dúdú (black Europeans), became their apprentices.
The Amaros-Aguda made their biggest and best contribution to Lagos in the fields of building construction and architecture which greatly influence western Nigerian architecture. The first Lagos brick kiln (oko tijoolò in Yoruba, which translates loosely as a brick farm) was established In 1859 by Mateus da Cruz, an Amaro-Aguda and one of the Yoruba word for brick, tijoolò, is derived from the Portuguese word for brick “tijolo.”
The Afro-Brazilian Quarter, also known as Aguda PoPo, is a neighborhood in modern-day Lagos that extends northeast from Tinubu Square to the Faji Market and south-west through Cow Lane towards Bamgbose Street. The streets in the neighborhood, which were first constructed around 1869, were given names like “Shetelou, Pedro, Martins, and Bamgbose” in honor of significant local figures. Tokunbo street, which translates to “the street of the new member of our family who has come from (over) the ocean,” is one of the most significant ones in the neighborhood.
These refugees joined a tiny but already established group of Brazilian slave traders. Even after the proclamation of 1862 (which determined that slaves should be turned into apprentices and should receive their freedom within two to seven years) when Lagos became a British colony, the returnee Afro-Brazilians who were themselves former slaves or decedents of former slaves owned slaves as late as 1875.
The Aguda community in Lagos established a catholic presence in Lagos and built its first cathedral, the Holy Cross Cathedral. The master builder was Lázaro Borges da Silva, an Aguda from Brazil in 1850 and the second tower of the church was built by Francisco Nobre another famous Aguda master builder considered the most gifted in Lagos. The altar and pulpit were built by Balthazar dos Reis, a famous Aguda cabinet maker and woodcarver. Jorge Quirino Roberto considered a “master painter,” was in charge of the new church’s painting. The cathedral was finally opened in 1881.

The Shitta Bey Mosque was built by João Batista da Costa, an Aguda in 1882 on Martins street in the Brazilian Quarter. He was assisted by an indigenous builder named Sanusi Aka. He was also responsible for the foundation of the Lagos Central Mosque which was completed by his disciple, Sanusi Aka. Shitta Bey Mosque was commissioned by Mohamed Shitta Bey, a wealthy Saro businessman who had led a group of Muslims from Sierra Leone to Lagos in 1844. Shitta-Bey alias Olowo Pupa was the first titled Seriki Musulumi of Lagos. Shitta Bey is reported to have donated between £3000[ and £7000 to build the mosque, the Muslim Afro-Brazilian community also provided resources and labour for the mosque’s construction, including the Cardoso family of Lagos (João Antonio Cardoso and his son, Braimah Cardoso).

In London, it became apparent that the name Plácido Assumpção was utterly unpronounceable in English and provoked laughter since the English translation, assumption, led to the comic translation of Placid Assumption. So Plácido Assumpção changed his name to Adeyemo Alakija. Honório Assumpção changed his name to Olayimika Alakija. According to a source referring to the family’s oral history, Alakija is a mixture of Ala meaning “comes from” and Kija a corruption of Ikeja, a town in Nigeria. There are actual Yoruba towns named Ikija in Ogun states and their rulers are known as Alakija which translates to Lord or owner of Ikija. In 1913, the auctioneer Andrew Wilkinson Thomas, A Saro hired his cousin, Herbert Macaulay, a Saro architect/surveyor and Balthazar dos Reis, an Àgùdà carpenter to build his Ẹbùn House in Lagos. The house which was destroyed by fire in the 1980s was situated at 85 Odunfa Street in Olowogbowo and close to the Shitta Bey Mosque,

James Pinson Labulo Davies, a wealthy additional Saro, donated £50 to start the CMS Grammar School in Lagos in 1859 so that it could purchase supplies. Hackers with ties to the Chinese government stole millions of dollars in COVID money.
The federal government of the United States has just confirmed the first formal incidence of pandemic fraud linked to foreign state-sponsored hackers.
According to NBC News, at least $20 million in COVID relief money have been stolen by the China-based, state-sponsored hacking organization APT41. a g a .
APT41 is a sophisticated gang that has previously carried out high-level attacks against the United States. In order to directly access platforms and systems, the hackers have perfected their craft by targeting developers via software weaknesses. APT41, for example, stole text messages from thousands of phone numbers in 2019 by infiltrating telecoms providers with malware.
In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, cybersecurity experts reported an increase in hacking attacks in 2020. APT41 is a major contributor to the surge. The group, according to experts, targeted several healthcare organizations, media organizations, and manufacturers in North America, Europe, and Asia.
According to a new Department of Labor analysis, an estimated $46 billion was obtained fraudulently from the COVID-19 pandemic unemployment insurance relief monies. Some experts believe that figure could be significantly higher. Security experts believe that foreign-sponsored criminal actors contributed significantly to the entire amount.
According to NBC News, the Secret Service declined to provide any other details regarding the attack. Although officials confirmed that a slew of investigations into this form of fraud are underway, including both domestic and international perpetrators. APT41 is also a “significant role in these investigations.”
It is yet unknown whether the Chinese government directed this specific APT41 attack, which stole COVID relief funding.
“I’ve never seen them target government money before,” stated one cybersecurity expert to NBC News. “That would be an increase.”

None of this is to say that there *isn’t* a growing homogeneity in architecture.The rise of glass-fronted skyscrapers and plastic-clad box buildings is a truly global phenomenon: none of the other examples were quite on this scale.
But what those examples show is that architectural homogeneity isn’t a novel trend. And, more importantly, they might give us some idea of why it happens.Before the world was such an interconnected place, architectural styles varied immensely; those mentioned here differ a lot:
What causes them to converge?It’s fairly obvious why an imperial power – which rules a foreign land and builds in its own way – would cause homogeneity.
Religion is more interesting; it speaks to identity, heritage, and tradition
Hence, perhaps, why modern religious buildings still vary so much – especially compared to things like skyscrapers, banks, offices, or hotels.Both of these were completed in the last twenty years: the Saint Sava Church in Belgrade and the Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Muscat.
The role of practicality is often overlooked in the development of architectural styles.Consider the wonderful and distinctive Sudano-Sahelian architecture of West Africa, which flourished particularly in the Middle Ages:
Its buildings were made from adobe, a locally available material, and those distinctive wooden beams were there to improve structural stability and to act as scaffolding – regular repairs to the adobe walls of such buildings are necessary.
And, while thatched cottages might look quaint and charming to us, their prevalence was due to the availability of the materials – reeds, straw, hay, palms, heather – their durability, and their usefulness for insulation and weatherproofing.
But, as trade increases, the need to rely on local materials disappears.That, and the invention of new materials or techniques. For example steel frames and reinforced concrete were game-changers; they made skyscrapers possible.
Technology is a big part of the story.
So we must ask *why* this particular style has become the global default.Practicality? Perhaps. The modern world seemingly needs skyscrapers, and this might be the best way of building them.
Like how neoclassical civic buildings had a specific look, so do modern skyscrapers.
None of which means that aesthetic considerations aren’t relevant.Because, if anything, it’s the *appearance* of modern architecture rather than its homogeneity that seems to bother people.
Whatever the problems of homogeneity, people often accept it if they like the style.
Though, for proof of how much architecture affects us – whether our feelings or sense of identity – look no further than Disney.Architecture is everywhere in those films; it was all chosen very carefully.
When architecture is too homogenous such meaning is lost – in real life.
So maybe everywhere is starting to look the same, but this process is an old one; it’s been at work for centuries.That doesn’t mean it can’t or shouldn’t change, but the past is rarely as simple as it seems; understanding it is the first step to understanding the present.
Lawyer: Man charged in Takeoff killing says he’s innocent
An attorney for a man accused of fatally shooting rapper Takeoff outside a Houston bowling alley last month said Monday that the musician’s death was a tragedy, but her client maintains his innocence.
Patrick Xavier Clark, 33, appeared briefly in court, where prosecutors and his defense attorneys agreed to hold a bond reduction hearing on December 14. Clark was arrested last week on a murder accusation and is being held on a $2 million bond.
Clark remained chained and clothed in orange jail garb during the hearing on Monday. After the hearing, one of Clark’s attorneys, Letitia Quinones, told reporters that Clark is “nervous and anxious” because “he’s being charged with something that he believes he’s innocent of, so how would anyone do in that type of circumstance?”
Monday, prosecutors declined to comment.
Takeoff, 28, was shot in the head and back as more than 30 people exited the bowling alley after a private party. According to Houston police, the gunfire erupted after a disagreement over a “lucrative” dice game around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 1, but Takeoff was not involved and was an “innocent bystander.”
According to police, another guy and a woman were shot but did not die, and at least two others opened fire. According to police, detectives are still looking for witnesses.
Takeoff, born Kirsnick Khari Ball, was the youngest member of the Grammy-nominated rap group Migos, which also included his uncle Quavo and cousin Offset.
According to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, detectives don’t know if Clark was invited to the party or if he knew Takeoff. According to court documents, Clark works as a DJ.
Quinones said Monday, when asked if Clark knew Takeoff, “We really don’t want to go into the details at this moment.”
Takeoff’s death, she said, was a “tragedy that happens far too often in our community.”
“There is a lot of research that needs to be done….” So, we just ask that everyone keep an open mind and let the system and the Constitution do its jobs, which is that he’s innocent until proven guilty right now,” Quinones added.
According to court records, Clark was caught as he prepared to depart the nation for Mexico after obtaining an expedited passport, and he had a “substantial amount” of cash with him.
Quinones stated that Clark had planned to travel to Mexico for a vacation but had canceled his trip before to his detention.
Quinones explained, “He wasn’t attempting to get anywhere.”
Migos made their debut in 2013 with the huge single “Versace.” They have four Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hits, while Takeoff was not featured on their multi-week No. 1 hit “Bad and Boujee,” which featured Lil Uzi Vert. They released three albums, “Culture,” “Culture II,” and “Culture III,” with the first two reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
Takeoff and Quavo released “Only Built for Infinity Links” in the weeks leading up to his death. Takeoff expressed his hopes for the collaborative record, telling the “Drink Champs” podcast, “It’s time to give me my roses.”
